Queensland Solicitor-General appointed to panel

5:54 pm on 26 June 2010

The Government has appointed Queensland's Solicitor-General, Walter Sofronoff, QC, as a special advisor to a panel considering a complaint about a Supreme Court judge.

The investigation relates to a High Court case in which one of the lawyers appearing before Justice Bill Wilson was Alan Galbraith, QC, to whom he owed $250,000.

Justices Randerson and Winkelmann and Chief Ombudsman Beverley Wakem are on the panel, which will decide if Justice Wilson should be sacked.

Dr Sofronoff will present the complaint to the panel.

Justice Wilson is fighting the panel's appointment and his lawyer, Colin Carruthers, QC, has asked the High Court to quash the decision.
