Latest figures on MPs expenses show an increase in travel and accomodation claims.

Figures issued by the Department of Internal Affairs, show ministers spent almost one-million dollars on overseas travel in the three months from April till the end of June.

About half that was travel by Prime Minister John Key, Trade Minister Tim Groser, and the Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully.

Senior National Party whip Chris Tremain says the costs reflect the work that has gone into free trade agreements.

Figures for all MPs spending show that six Labour Party MPs spent more than 25,000 on travel and accommodation over the three months.

Chief Labour whip Darren Hughes says some MPs have great distances to travel.
