Review of Govt spending on policy advice 'warranted'

A former head of Treasury says the growth in Government spending on policy advice has been substantial and warrants a review.

The Government says spending on policy advice rose from $510 million in 2003 to $880 million in 2009.

Graham Scott has been appointed to lead a review of the expenditure, which he says seems to be out of kilter with other spending increases.

He says a review team will go through the spending to assure the Government and the public they are getting value for money, and if not, what might be done about it.
