Pre-election reports not liked

11:23 am on 5 August 2010

Kapiti Coast Mayor Jenny Rowan has told MPs that a bill requiring a council to provide a pre-election report could compromise chief executives.

Parliament's Local Government and Environment Select Committee is hearing submissions on proposed changes to the Local Government Act.

Ms Rowan says Kapiti Coast District Council is strongly opposed to pre-election reports to promote public discussion about issues facing councils.

She says annual plans and other council reports provide plenty of information to the public.

Ms Rowan says a new report is unnecessary and risks politicising chief executives, who will be commenting on outgoing councils.
