34 immigration staff under investigation

The Department of Labour has confirmed 34 immigration staff are being investigated for allegations ranging from corruption to the misuse of property and systems.

Immigration New Zealand, which falls within the department, says 16 of the unsubstantiated allegations relate to overseas staff and 18 staff in New Zealand. One person has been suspended.

Of the 60 allegations received in the 2009 to 2010 year, 10 were substantiated, 27 were unsubstantiated and 23 are still being investigated.
