No return to national politics yet for Mark

Former New Zealand First deputy leader Ron Mark is ruling out a return to national politics in the immediate future.

Waatea News reports NZ First leader Winston Peters is expected to stand in John Key's Helensville electorate as he seeks to attract enough support from dissatisfied voters to put his party's vote over the 5% threshold.

Mr Mark believes New Zealand First will be back in Parliament, but says his current role as the chief executive of the Federation of Maori Authorities means he's unlikely to be there.

"Entering national politics would not be in the best interests for FOMA," he said.

Mr Mark said his current political focus is becoming the mayor of Carterton.
