Labour Party president Andrew Little is set to be selected unopposed as the party's candidate for New Plymouth at next year's general election.
Mr Little is the only nomination for the seat, which Labour lost at the last election to National's Jonathan Young.
Labour on Wednesday announced 17 electorates where only one nomination was received, including many of sitting MPs.
Another five seats will have selection contests after more than one nomination was lodged.
Labour plans to select all its candidates for the 2011 election by the end of the year.
National Party has announced that its MP Hekia Parata will stand as its candidate in the forthcoming Mana by-election. Ms Parata's nomination was the only one received by National.
Labour nominations for the Mana by-election close on Thursday. Labour will decide its candidate next week.
The seat will be left vacant by Labour MP Winnie Laban, who has accepted a job at Victoria University.
