Labour president takes heart from local results

Labour Party president Andrew Little has told party members the results of the local body elections show there is a political mood for change.

The newly elected mayor of Auckland, Len Brown, told delegates when he opened the annual conference in Auckland on Friday night that they should take heart from the election of himself and what he called other left-leaning mayors around the country.

Mr Little told the conference the weekend was not about rehashing the past but about putting up a strong contest in next year's general election.

"If we want to win, if we are serious about winning next year," he said, "we can win."
