Asset sale proponent's appointment questioned

The Green Party is questioning the appointment of a prominent backer of state asset sales to review the future of New Zealand Post.

Investment banker Rob Cameron was appointed in July by New Zealand Post to head the review, which will be carried out jointly with the Treasury.

Mr Cameron last year headed the Government's Capital Markets Development Taskforce, which recommended the part-sale of state owned enterprises.

The Government has made a committment not to sell any assets in this term, but Green Party co-leader Russel Norman says appointing Mr Cameron suggests asset sales are still on the agenda.

The Government says it did not instigate the review.
