Minister delivers wrong speech to Parliament

9:49 pm on 9 November 2010

A government minister has delivered the wrong speech to Parliament, addressing a completely different bill - one that was passed into law last year.

Standing in for Revenue Minister Peter Dunne, National's Jonathan Coleman was introducing the taxation bill to Parliament on Tuesday night.

The Clerk of the House announced the bill's first reading, but Dr Coleman began addressing another piece of legislation altogether.

He proceeded with his entire 10-minute speech on the wrong bill, despite other MPs shouting across the chamber, trying to alert him to his mistake.
