The Ministry of Economic Development says moves to centralise government procurement are saving millions of dollars.

Officials have told Parliament's commerce select committee on Thursday that the ministry is running a five-year plan which has centralised the purchase of cars, information technology, printers and copiers, and stationery.

Instead of government agencies buying their own equipment they now have to go through the ministry.

The committee has been told that the Government is saving $115 million because of the change.
