Reforms introduced to Parliament this week are the last chance to overhaul the marine farming industry, says Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Phil Heatley.
Mr Heatley told an aquaculture conference in Nelson on Wednesdya that the Government had embraced reforms to reduce costs and delays and open up new space and new species to marine farmers.
The Aquaculture Reform Bill had its first reading on Tuesday.
Mr Heatley says that after many failed attempts to revitalise the industry, the latest moves should succeed.
He says a select committee process on the bill will start shortly.
