Disagreements among committee members overshadowed the first day of hearings on the replacement bill for the Foreshore & Seabed Act.
The Marine and Coastal Area Bill is being considered by the Maori Affairs Select Committee.
During the hearing, ACT MP John Boscawen questioned a submitter about whether he could have confidence in the committee.
Committee chair Tau Henare (National) told Mr Boscawen that if he had no confidence in the committee, he knew where the door was.
Mr Henare said he will ask the Speaker of the House to remove Mr Boscawen from the committee.
He said he does not mind if a submitter does not have confidence in the committee - but it is a different matter for a committee member.
