Labour proposes business push by SOEs

6:38 pm on 25 November 2010

The Labour Party is proposing that state-owned enterprises look for more business opportunities, including setting up subsidiaries in partnership with the private sector.

Labour's finance spokesperson, David Cunliffe, says state-owned enterprises would remain in public ownership under the party's policy, but he is open to the idea that any new subsidiaries could be publicly listed companies.

Mr Cunliffe says Labour is looking at ways the government can use its substantial investment in state-owned enterprises to boost economic activity.
