Govt wants KiwiSaver providers to disclose charges

3:40 pm on 1 December 2010

The Government is proposing all KiwiSaver providers be required to report every three months on fees and charges and their investment returns.

It has released a discussion document and is seeking public submissions on the proposal by 11 March next year.

Commerce Minister Simon Power says the 1.5 million people in KiwiSaver have to have confidence in the voluntary savings scheme and be able to compare the various funds.

Mr Power says investors need to be able to rely on information about fund performance without wondering if the figures had been doctored.

The proposals will make it easier for the yet-to-be established Financial Markets Authority to regulate KiwiSaver providers, he says.
