Minister says 'nonsense' talked about NZ climate stance

6:53 am on 8 December 2010

International Climate Change Negotiations Minister Tim Groser says a lot of misinformation is being spread about New Zealand's alliances at talks taking place in Mexico.

The Labour and Green parties have accused Government representatives in Cancun of aligning with a bloc of big polluters who are hindering progress towards a binding agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

But Tim Groser says that is nonsense, and New Zealand's position on any extension to the Kyoto Protocol is clear.

He says this country is happy to agree to a second round of commitments to any extended period of the protocol.
