Kidd applauds Ngati Porou settlement

A Waitangi Tribunal member, Sir Doug Kidd, says the $110 million Ngati Porou settlement saves the tribunal the cost of running a major inquiry.

The former Maori Affairs Minister was not on the panel set down to hear the claims, but he was at Parliament on Wednesday to witness the signing of the deed negotiated by Te Runanga o Ngati Porou.

Sir Douglas told Waatea News that, as with Tainui, the settlement shows it's possible to resolve Treaty grievances without going through the full tribunal process.
