Barry puts name forward in Botany by-election

6:15 pm on 11 January 2011

Broadcaster Maggie Barry will put her name forward to stand for the National Party in the upcoming Botany by-election.

The by-election was forced by the resignation of Cabinet minister, Pansy Wong, over the misuse of her international travel subsidy.

Nominations for National close at midday on Wednesday and the party's general manager, Greg Hamilton, says about 10 people have put their names forward so far.

The Labour Party's nominations close at the end of the month.

The by-election will be held on 5 March.
