Party trying to get ride of Harawira, says electorate

The Maori Party in Te Tai Tokerau is accusing the party's leaders of trying to get rid of its MP, Hone Harawira.

Tension between the electorate and the party leadership escalated when a hui in Auckland was cancelled on Thursday.

The hui was supposed to discuss a complaint laid against the Te Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira by his fellow MP Te Ururoa Flavell.

The chairman of the electorate committee, Lisa McNabb, says some in the party are following a constitutional process to resolve the matter rather than a Kaupapa Maori process.

Ms McNabb says this process can only be coming from the top level of the Maori Party, which is no longer listening to the people.
