Complaint upheld over beer advert set in 1958

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint that a beer advertising campaign misrepresented history.

Wigram MP Jim Anderton made the complaint about a DB Breweries Export beer campaign which centred on the Black Budget in 1958.

Mr Anderton argued that the film footage used, showing civil unrest, was from the 1951 waterfront dispute. He says there was no rioting in 1958.

The authority found he was correct.

Mr Anderton says he clearly remembers both events.

DB Breweries denies the campaign was misleading, saying there was civil unrest and it used the footage to depict that.
