Parliament to be suspended for the week

Parliament is set to be suspended for the rest of the week.

Prime Minister John Key and other political leaders are likely to make short statements on Wednesday afternoon before Parliament is suspended.

Other events, including a keynote speech by Finance Minister Bill English on the public sector, have also been cancelled.

Cabinet began another emergency meeting at 9.30am. Other political political parties were to be briefed on the latest news from Christchurch at about 11am.
