The Government is considering urgent temporary changes to the tax system to assist those recovering from the Christchurch earthquake.
The Inland Revenue Department has already taken some measures, including granting donee and tax exemption status to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal and clarifying the tax on overseas donations.
Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says the Government is now looking at issues raised by members of the public and tax professionals.
Those issues include depreciation on destroyed buildings, the tax on donated goods, the redundancy tax credit which expires in April and the tax on welfare benefits provided by employers.
Mr Dunne says he expects to be able to announce any legislative changes in a couple of weeks.
