Cabinet to decide on quake department next week

The Cabinet will decide next week whether to create a government department to control the rebuilding of Christchurch.

The Prime Minister says an announcement on the decision is likely on Monday.

John Key says the Cabinet has identified someone who could run the department temporarily but has not decided who could permanently run it.

Mr Key says heading the new department is a co-ordination role and would ideally suit someone with public and private service experience.
