MP seeks greater transparency around charity donations

National Party MP Amy Adams will continue to lobby political parties to support a law change aimed at providing greater transparency around donations to charity.

Ms Adams members' bill would have forced companies collecting donations on behalf of a charity to state the portion they would keep if it was more than 20%.

The Commerce Select Committee has amended the bill, saying it should be up to the Minister of Consumer Affairs to say whether the amount should be disclosed.

Ms Adams says the intent of the bill remains the same and would mean rules could be put in place so a third party collecting on behalf of a charity would have to say how much of the donation they were keeping.
