No tips for Goff from Rudd

Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd says he has no leadership advice for Phil Goff.

There have been questions over the Labour leader's future because of his handling of a police investigation involving former list MP Darren Hughes, who resigned on Friday.

Mr Goff knew of the matter, which is understood to be of a sexual nature, for two weeks before it became public knowledge.

Mr Hughes was promoted to be Labour's education spokesman in February. He was also the party's senior whip.

Mr Rudd was rolled as the Labor leader and prime minister of Australia by Julia Gillard last year.

Visiting Christchurch in his current capacity as foreign minister, he said on Saturday that the first rule of international relations is not to interfere.
