A new deputy commissioner of police has been appointed. The job has gone to Mike Bush, currently Counties-Manukau district commander.

He will take up the position of Deputy Commissioner - Operations in early April, on a five-year contract.

Mr Bush, who graduated from the Police College in 1978, has served in Kaitaia, Auckland, North Shore and Bay of Plenty.

He has also been the officer in charge of Interpol at police national headquarters in Wellington, and between 2003 and 2007 he was the police liaison officer for Southeast Asia, based in Bangkok.

Mr Bush will work alongside the new Police Commissioner, Peter Marshall, and the Deputy Commissioner - Resource Management, Viv Rickard.
