Minister can't release abuse report

10:03 pm on 15 April 2011

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says the Government is working on the recommendations of a report into alleged child abuse, but can not release its findings.

In January, Ms Bennett called for a ministerial inquiry into the alleged abuse of a nine-year-old Auckland girl and other matters relating to the safety and welfare of children.

She says the inquiry is now complete, but for legal reasons its findings must stay under wraps.

Ms Bennett says her priority is to see justice done, and she will not release information that could affect court proceedings.

However, she says the Government is actively working on the report's recommendations.
