Ratana support for Labour questioned

9:07 am on 18 April 2011

The Ratana Church expects questions to be asked at its national hui this weekend about its support for the Labour Party.

Some church members have voiced their disappointment over the low ranking of its candidates on Labour's list for November's election.

There are three list candidates with Ratana connections: Rino Tirikatene is in 45th place; Louis Te Kani at 53 and Soraya Peke-Mason 55.

None will be elected to Parliament on Labour's current polling.

Kereama Pene, a senior church minister, says Labour has sold out Ratana and the church's 60,000 followers should abandon the party.
