Review of public prosecution services announced

11:52 am on 20 April 2011

Another review within the justice sector has been announced by the Government.

Other reviews are currently underway of the legal aid system and the Family Court and there is legislation before Parliament enacting changes arising a review of criminal procedures.

The latest announcement on Wednesday targets cost pressures within public prosecution services, on which the Government spends about $75 million per year.

Attorney-General Chris Finlayson says the review will examine the organisational structures, governance and accountability of agencies within the prosecution system, as well as their roles, functions and processes.
