Commerce Minister Simon Power says the Retirement Commissioner's portfolio will be moved from the Ministry of Social Development to the Commerce portfolio from July.
Mr Power says the move is aimed at improving financial literacy for 'mum and dad' investors.
He says the prevalence of 'low ball' share offers recently shows financial literacy is an area that needs attention and the portfolio is better aligned with the work the Commerce Commission does.
