Internet voting trial local body elections suggested

A select committee is suggesting a trial of internet voting be held at the next local authority elections in 2013.

The Justice and Electoral committee has finished its inquiry into last year's local elections.

It says the security risks of postal voting are well managed and there is no reason for the system to be abandoned.

But it also heard submissions in favour of voting online in the future.

The committee is recommending the Government consider a trial of internet voting in 2013, saying it could increase voter turnout.
