Minister 'open' to funding for Destiny programmes

4:02 pm on 7 June 2011

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says he would be open to government funding going to programmes run by the Destiny Church.

Dr Sharples, who is also Maori Party co-leader, is one of four politicians that addressed members of the church at a meeting at the weekend.

The minister says he did not give an undertaking that he would fight for funding.

However, he says Destiny Church runs welfare, business and education programmes and could be eligible.
