Horomia calls for more women to speak on marae

9:22 pm on 23 June 2011

Ikaroa-Rawhiti MP Parekura Horomia says it is time for Maoridom to let their wahine speak on the marae.

His own Ngati Porou iwi, north of Gisborne, has a history of women orators, but it is unusual in other areas.

Mr Horomia told Waatea News some aspects of Maori protocol reflect the colonial era, and do not relate to the needs and desires of the younger generation.
