Last minute flurry of by-election enrolments

6:40 pm on 24 June 2011

There's been a last-minute rush of enrolments to vote in Saturday's by-election in Te Tai Tokerau.

The Registrar of Electors, Stephen Hansen, says party workers have been bringing in bundles of registration forms over the last few days and Friday afternoon had been especially busy.

Mr Hansen says the roll has grown by about 800 in the last four weeks, and now stands at just over 32,700.

That's about 200 down on the roll for the last general election.

Meanwhile, Te Tai Tokerau returning officer Shane Mathieson says the number of people casting advance and special votes is up on 2008.

Mr Mathieson says by Friday afternoon, 1361 people had voted, about 200 more than at the same point in 2008.
