Labour breaches Electoral Act with pamphlet

7:05 pm on 10 July 2011

The Labour Party has been advised by the Electoral Commission that one of its pamphlets breaches the Electoral Act.

The "Stop Asset Sales" flyer did not include a formal promoter statement as required under the Act.

Labour spokesperson, Grant Robertson, says the commission was concerned the words "authorised by" were not included in an explicit promoter statement.

He says because the party believed the pamphlet was not an election advertisement, it did not include the statement, which the Act now requires any election advertisement to bear.

Mr Robertson says the party has withdrawn the pamphlet from circulation, along with another similar publication.
