Brownlee disappointed at fraudulent invoice allegations

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee is disappointed by reports some fraudulent invoices have been filed by contractors following the Canterbury earthquakes.

The Earthquake Commission (EQC) says investigations have revealed instances of double billing and inflated prices, and repair work that either was not done properly or done at all.

Mr Brownlee says there are hundreds of contractors doing a great job in Christchurch, and the reports of fraud take the shine off the good work being done.

Meanwhile, the minister says EQC is continuing to work through cases of outstanding invoices from contractors that haven't been paid.

He says the commission has systems in place, and can take on more staff if it needs to.
