Last day at Parliament for Carter

6:42 am on 15 July 2011

Friday is the last day on the job for Northland MP John Carter (National).

After 24 years in Parliament he's off to Rarotonga as New Zealand's Commissioner for the Cook Islands.

'Hone' Carter - as he's been known in the north - says he's been humbled by some of his farewell gifts, including a fine-woven mat from Kaitaia College.

Mr Carter says it's been an honour to serve the people of the north, whichever electoral roll they're on.
