The Mana Party might get away with a potential breach of electoral law in a newspaper advertisement it ran during the Te Tai Tokerau by-election.
The Electoral Commission says it will act only if it is sent a copy of the advertisement.
The advertisement promoting Mana Party leader Hone Harawira failed to include a promoter statement as required by electoral law.
A spokesperson for the Electoral Commission says while the commission doesn't need to receive a complaint, it does need detailed information about an alleged breach before investigating.
In the case of a Labour Party postcard, which has been referred to the police because its promoter statement was not in the prescribed form, the spokesperson says someone sent a copy of the postcard to the commission.
