Labour has confirmed list MP David Parker as its candidate for Epsom at the November election.
National has done a deal with ACT in the electorate to help ACT candidate Johns Bank secure the Auckland seat.
If ACT fails to top the 5% party vote threshold, it needs the electorate to return to Parliament.
Mr Parker says the vision of ACT leader Don Brash is as repugnant and divisive as Hone Harawira is at the other extreme, and Labour will work with neither.
He says he will campaign hard for the seat and describes the contest as a fight for the future.
