National taking nothing for granted in run up to election

8:39 am on 12 August 2011

The National Party is heading into its election year conference riding high in the polls but the Prime Minister says it is taking nothing for granted.

The party is likely to outline its plans for further welfare reform, following the work of the Welfare Working Group set up to review the system.

John Key says he believes National can stake a claim to be the next Government - but says a lot can change in a 15-week period.

He says he wants to be transparent and clear with the public and National will campaign on partial asset sales, welfare reform and more change in the way Government is structured.

Mr Key will give his speech to the conference on Sunday, when he is expected to outline the party's welfare policy.

The election will be held on 26 November.
