Prime Minister John Key says National will not be campaigning during the Rugby World Cup.
World Cup matches start on 9 September and run until the final on 23 Octoberat at Labour Weekend.
The general election is on Saturday, 26 November.
Mr Key says National will be focussing its campaign on the four weeks up until polling day and not on the time of the rugby tournament.
He says there will be a week after the final of the cup when visitors are leaving the country and then it will be into the campaign in earnest.
