Mana Party leader Hone Harawira has drawn comparisons between the situation facing young people in New Zealand and the background to the riots in London.
Mr Harawira says overseas events, including the London riots, highlight what happens if investment is not made in young people.
In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Harawira questioned Social Development Minister Paula Bennett about National's policy on youth unemployment.
He asked Ms Bennett how long it would be before disillusioned youth in this country take to the streets, like their "mates" in England have done.
The minister defended National's policies, saying the Government wants to give young people more employment and training opportunities.
