The Census deferred earlier this year because of the Christchurch earthquake will be held on 8 March 2013.
Minister of Statistics Maurice Williamson says the new date means a review of electoral boundaries can still be held before the 2014 election.
The Census is the official count of how many people and dwellings there are in New Zealand.
