Calvert off ACT party list

9:18 am on 29 August 2011

ACT party leader Don Brash says MP Hilary Calvert withdrew her nomination for re-election to the party's list after he spoke to her.

Ms Calvert, who initially sought to remain on the list, says she accepts the party board's decision to go with a new look.

It was the support of Ms Calvert that allowed Don Brash to topple Rodney Hide as party leader in April.

Dr Brash told Morning Report there's no issue of loyalty involved in dropping Ms Calvert from the list. He says there is nothing further to say.

The party leader has the top spot on the list, announced on Sunday, and John Boscawen is second.

Dr Brash has confirmed the number three spot, which has been left blank, is being held for a female candidate.

It is understood that, circumstances permitting, it will be former ACT party president Catherine Isaacs.
