ACT MP Sir Roger Douglas has delivered his valedictory speech to Parliament bringing to a close a political career that has spanned more than 40 years.

Sir Roger entered Parliament in 1969 as a Labour Party MP, left in 1990 and returned 18 years later as an ACT party backbencher.

His valedictory speech on Thursday was peppered with anecdotes from the 1980s.

Sir Roger says he has enjoyed his time in Parliament and has no regrets.

He says when he retires at the election in November he will be leaving Parliament for the last time.
