$2.8 million given to Out of School Care programmes

Out of school care programmes are to get a $2.8 million boost from the Government.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says the Government wants to support a focus on work, not welfare.

She says the current capped funding of almost $18 million for Out of School Care and Recreation programmes has been spread increasingly thinly as the number of providers sharing the pool of funding has grown.

Ms Bennett says the Government wants to retain strong provision of childcare, but to do so funding needs to be increased so providers get a decent amount of assistance.
