The Labour Party is pledging to introduce a new type of employment agreement that would bring in industry-wide minimum pay and conditions.

Leader Phil Goff released the party's work and wages policy at the First Union Conference in Hamilton on Tuesday afternoon.

If elected to office at November's general election, Mr Goff says Labour would introduce a $15 an hour minimum wage and repeal the 90-day probation periods brought in by the National-led Government.

It would also amend the Holidays Act to give all workers access to 11 public holidays a year, so if such a holiday falls on a weekend day workers will still get a day off.

Mr Goff has also unveiled Industry Standard Agreements.

These would be a collective agreement initially agreed between unions and employers in a defined industry, but the standards could be extended to all workers in the industry providing a minimum set of pay and conditions.
