Maori Party to discuss future leadership

8:31 am on 7 December 2011

The Maori Party will begin to discuss the future of Pita Sharples as the party's co-leader soon.

Both he and fellow co-leader Tariana Turia have said they will not stand at the next election.

Te Ururoa Flavell, the party's only other sitting MP, is expected to succeed Dr Sharples as co-leader before then.

Party president Pem Bird says the issue of leadership will begin to be discussed on 17 December.
