A Members' bill to celebrate Waitangi Day and Anzac Day on Monday if they fall on a weekend is to be considered by Parliament.
Labour MP David Clark has had his Holidays Full Recognition of Waitangi Day and Anzac Day Amendment Bill drawn from the ballot.
Mr Clark says the bill proposes that if these days fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday would be a public holiday.
He says it would prevent people from missing two of the 11 statutory holidays every five years.
However, National Party Gerry Brownlee says those two days are specific dates of commemorations.
Mr Clark says his bill has the support of the Labour caucus.
Green Party MP Kevin Hague says New Zealanders could do with more public holidays.
