Finance Minister Bill English says the series of consultation hui with Maori on the partial sale of four state-owned companies has been a very valuable exercise.
Bill English met with about 80 people in Gisborne on Wednesday at the eighth of ten hui.
He says each meeting has been much more positive for both the Government and Maori than portrayed by some media.
Mr English says those who have attended the hui know the issues well and have taken them seriously.
Bill English says there are a number of issues which individual iwi have because of their existing relationship with some of the SOEs, which the Government guarantees it will deal with.
The last hui will be held in Napier Monday 20 February.
